Why Another Note Reading App?
Learning to read music is often the biggest hurdle for young musicians. In-class time is limited, and band books can’t provide immediate feedback. Without that feedback students will struggle with note names.
An ideal aid to learning notes would do four things:
1. Provide immediate feedback.
2. Be sequential, differentiating for each instrument.
3. Reward for speed.
4. Report scores easily.
Band Note Learner is an app that does all four, and is available for both iPad and iPhone. It works with all the common band instruments and features 9 levels, starting with an instrument’s initial three notes and continuing through the entire first year of band class.
High Scores are sent over email through the app, making easy to see their progress.
Band Note Learner is designed and coded by Brian Owen, a professional trumpeter and iOS developer from Pasadena, California. His wife Sarah teaches band at Ramona Middle School in La Verne, CA.
